I love the outdoors, but I am also a creature of comfort. Although I have learned to tolerate certain irritants (like itchy grass) for the sake of a good time every spring and summer, that doesn’t mean I have adapted enough that the itchiness doesn’t bother me. If you’re like me, I’ve got good news: I found a solution in the Rumpl Everywhere Mat. It gives me just the right amount of separation between me and nature, while ensuring that I can stay outside all day long.

I use it so much, in fact, that I’m pretty sure that the only time this blanket has ever been inside my home was when the package arrived on my doorstep, and when it needed an occasional run through the washing machine to prepare it for the next picnic, camping trip, outdoor movie, sporting event, or beach trip. Although I’m notoriously forgetful, returning the blanket to my trunk has become an ingrained necessity — so it’s always ready for when I need it next.

What Is the Rumpl Everywhere Mat?

The Rumpl Everywhere Mat is an outdoor blanket. It comes in two sizes: 38 inches by 52 inches for the mini, and 52 inches by 75 inches for the full-size blanket. The top is covered in a stain and water-resistent polyester microsuede, while the bottom is waterproof as well.

Each corner features a loop that allows you to stake it into the ground (so no flying away on windy days) and the blanket has corner pockets that allow you to stash valuables out of view, giving you the freedom to go for a leisurely walk without taking it all with you. When you’re finished using it, the blanket rolls up tight into an attached compact pocket that can be stowed away without taking up excessive space. It’s actually so compact that when I recently shoved it down into a tiny corner of my Outback, I just about had a conniption trying to find it a few days later. So word to the wise — be careful not to pack it away too well.

The model runs anywhere from $80 to $145 either for the mini or original size, although right now it’s currently on sale for between $35 and $110 depending on the size, print, and style of Rumpl you choose.

Unlike a typical blanket, it’s super-water-resistant and durable, which means that it keeps you dry, and it can also hold its own even in sandy, muddy, rocky, and weedy conditions.

Is the Rumpl Worth It?

I know the blanket is quite expensive, so if you’re wondering if it’s truly worth the splurge or why you should trust my judgement, let me say this: I have gone through quite the minimalism journey the past couple of years, so my criteria as to what I am willing to give my space and money to (or recommend that you do as well) is strict.

That said, this blanket is so versatile, durable, and space-conscious that it’s more difficult to come up with reasons not to purchase it — especially if you need something that checks all those boxes.

This blanket is easy to carry, easy to stash away in my car, and always on-hand for any outdoor adventure — from the beach to a park day. It’s such an upgrade for all of my summer activities that I’m not sure what it was like before I had it.

If you are looking for something more geared towards families or larger groups, you may prefer the Rumpl Stash Mat (another model I was lucky enough to try out recently). This is also specifically designed to be a ground mat, so it is both water-resistant and designed to prevent dirt and debris from sticking to your blanket. It also folds up into its own tote bag, complete with shoulder strap and three pockets, so you can stash your keys, phone, water or snacks without needing to carry another bag. Whichever model you end up going for, I guarantee it will earn a designated spot in your trunk — and your life as well.
