The bedrooms in our 1930s home are awkward and narrow, which means I ask a lot of every piece of furniture that makes the cut. Our nightstands, especially, need to earn their keep: My husband and I each need enough surface space for an oversized table lamp (a nonnegotiable for me), plus plenty of hidden storage for all the little things our tiny closets can’t handle.

So when I started shopping for new nightstands for our bedroom, I thought my wish list was simple enough: oversized, real wood, lots of drawer space, and modern enough to make a design statement. Months of internet searching proved otherwise. Everything I found was either too small, too plain, or looked too cheaply made. Then I stumbled upon the Saatva Arden Nightstand, and I knew immediately I’d found the one.

What Is the Saatva Arden Nightstand?

The Arden comes in two sizes, and I went with the larger 32-inch version in Black Oak for both sides of our bed. It has two roomy fluted drawers, curved edges, and slim brass pulls that give it just enough polish without making it feel fussy. And, because it arrived fully assembled with white-glove delivery, there was no furniture-building project standing between me and my beautiful new nightstands, which is always a win.

The product photos really don’t do these justice. The Black Oak wood grain is absolutely gorgeous in person, and the whole piece feels substantial and beautifully made. Even the drawers have some heft to them and close softly and quietly, another detail I always cherish in my storage furniture.

Why I Love the Saatva Arden Nightstand

First, the storage is serious. The drawers are deep enough that mine currently house my overflowing candle collection, while my husband uses his for his watches and all those random things he wants within arm’s reach but that don’t really have another home. There’s also plenty of real estate up top for my oversized lamp, water carafe, and a storage box without everything feeling crammed together.

But what really sold me is that all that function doesn’t come at the expense of style. These nightstands are the true scene-stealers in our bedroom. I love the fluted drawer fronts and brass pulls, but the curved edges might actually be my favorite detail. They soften the larger silhouette and also make the nightstands feel much less boxy — plus, as someone who is very likely to walk directly into the corner of her own furniture, I appreciate the lack of sharp edges on anything. After searching for months, I can confidently say these were worth the wait. They give us almost the storage of two small dressers while still looking like beautiful, intentional pieces of furniture. If you’re looking for an oversized nightstand that can make a decor statement and hide a mildly unreasonable candle collection, this is the one, promise.
