I first discovered the Scrub Daddy when I wrote a post about the top-rated cleaning tools on Amazon. (You might have seen it first on Shark Tank—it's the most successful product in the show's history.)
It turns out that after reading the reviews on this so-called miracle sponge, I couldn't help trying one out for myself. Then I quickly saw what all the fuss was about.
The much-hyped magic of Scrub Daddy is that the sponge becomes stiffer or softer depending on the temperature of the water (in warm water, it becomes soft, but in cool water, it's firm), which means it's the perfect sponge for everything from scrubbing off cooked-on lasagna to soaping up delicate glassware.
But there's a second, hidden bit of magic that makes Scrub Daddy something you want to keep in your dish-washing arsenal: its shape. The eyes and mouth of this smiley-face-shaped sponge aren't just cute—they're actually quite brilliant.
The eye holes add grip
Sponge Daddy's eye holes make it ideal for holding securely with your fingers—almost like a bowling ball—while you channel your elbow grease where you need to.
The round shape is perfect for glassware
The round size and shape means Scrub Daddy fits nicely inside most glasses to thoroughly clean wine glasses or other drinkware that you don't want to put in the dishwasher.
The smile makes quick work of spoons
The smile portion of the Scrub Daddy's smiley face is about more than making a cheerful-looking sponge. It's just the right size and shape for cleaning spoons, as I recently learned from Jillee of One Good Thing.
As if all that weren't good enough, one of my personal favorite things about the Scrub Daddy is that it is easy to rinse food out of it and it dries really quickly, making it among the most sanitary of sponges I've tried. It can always be tossed in the dishwasher for an extra good wash, too.
