This Seattle Rental Plays with Pink in Extremely Cute Ways
Carina Simmons has rented this $1625-a-month, 750-square-foot apartment for three years, and shares it with her cat: It’s a historic building that used to be what I think was a town hall. My unit is where the ballroom/main entrance was, and the original floors and hardware are still intact! The floor boards are loose and squeaky, but I love the character it provides and to imagine the many people who walked on them. Arched details and stained glass tulips in the windows allude to the Dutch roots of the architect.
I’m an artist, and incorporating colors into my living spaces is really important, as are unique or eclectic splashes of decor (especially when they aren’t noticeable at first). I like when someone points out a piece after they’ve been in the space for a while. I aim for little hidden gems.
Describe your home’s style in five words or fewer: Bohemian-lite with a splash of pink.
What is your favorite room and why? The mudroom; it’s a perfect little space for growing plants, doing stretches and light exercises, keeping the door open on a sunny day, and reading a book on the porch. It’s a perfect introduction before entering into the apartment.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? A framed ’60s art print from a local consignment store.
Any advice for creating a home you love? Find timeless pieces that speak to your personality. And rugs and plants are crucial to making a space cozy and comfortable.
Thanks, Carina!
