Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: I have lived in my home in San Francisco for about six months now! It has a very San Francisco feel—huge windows, bay window, etc. and also some very special elements like a black and white tiled kitchen floor, three fireplaces, and stained glass windows. I love plants, finding vintage items, scouring Craigslist for furniture, and collecting ceramics from all my travels, so our home is very colorful. I live with two of my best friends from college and we all love the light and color of the house. We are big cooks and often host large home-cooked dinners and board game nights.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Maximalist, colorful, urban jungle
What is your favorite room and why? I love the living room—it almost feels like a luxury in San Francisco to have a living room. My last place had three rooms and a kitchen but no living room, so it’s great to have a space where we can watch TV together, keep a bar cart, have lounge space, play games, etc. And we have a beautiful circular window with a built-in bench, which is the most special part of the room.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? I collect ceramics from my travels for our house (a huuuge sucker for dishware; Heath is my version of fine China). Recently picked up some blue pottery (type of ceramics) from Jaipur, India.
Any advice for creating a home you love? I think millennial home decorating has become too centered around a few stereotypical things: minimalism, having a fiddle leaf fig tree, West Elm pillows, etc. We love coming home every day and being home because we’ve filled it with objects representing us so well—knick-knacks our parents send us, found chairs on the street during a night out (her name is CHAIRity), plants propagated from friends, $5 desks from Craigslist, and so much more. I think the fact that all the items in our home have great stories behind them make the place so special, and I encourage everyone to put their memories and experiences into their home decor.
