Still Don’t Know Who Shawn Mendes Is? This Real Estate Agent Is Here to Help

If you don’t know who cutie Canadian, “Treat You Better” singer Shawn Mendes is, well… that’s okay since I didn’t really remember I liked him slash knew anything about him until about an hour ago when I came across some songs from his self-titled album on Spotify. But within maybe 20 minutes, I became obsessed with the “Stitches” singer. All of his most-recent songs are bangers and make me grin from ear-to-ear. I quickly Slacked all of my co-workers “Guys, wait, I actually love Shawn Mendes” and I started to feel hot all over as I listened to his discography (45 minutes later, I’m still sweating). This is a big deal because I don’t listen to pop music all that much, and usually I’m listening to something sad like Neil Young’s 1971 recorded concert “Live From Massey Hall” (also a banger, in my opinion).

Anyways, when you fall in love quickly, you often need to find out if the person who has taken you head over heels is a bad person. So I swiftly went to Google. There, after confirming that he still seems innocent in the public eye, I found three additional important pieces of information that might be “A Little Too Much”: 1. It’s his BIRTHDAY TODAY (there’s the news hook!), 2. He is not even of legal drinking age in the United States (!), and 3. His mother, Karen, is a real estate agent.

Now, if you don’t know, I am Apartment Therapy’s Real Estate editor. This quick diversion magically became WORK. “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” from brainstorming a fake article with my co-workers who had also succumbed to his charms. (It’s “House Hunting Tips From Shawn Mendes’s Mom, Karen,” for those who were wondering). I took to Google to find a press contact for this ultra-celebrity mom, and what I found was an agent page that would change the course of my life, forever.

At first, the real estate agent page for Karen Rayment (Mendes’s mother) looks like your standard sales representative page. There’s a feature spot for a home in a gated community in Ontario, there’s a quick 60-second video about why you should hire a real estate agent, and of course, there are her new listings.

But scroll down and you’ll find she has quite the “Particular Taste” in music: Karen has embedded 14 of her son’s music videos onto her professional page. Celebrity superstars’ moms—they’re just like ours!

A quick look at his mom’s brokerage’s Twitter page at the shows he doesn’t have a “Bad Reputation” among his mom’s colleagues: The Century 21-affiliate often retweets Mendes’s new music videos and other releases, too. Now, if that’s not heartwarming, I don’t know what is!
