Not all Minneapolis brownstones are created equal. The moment you step into Kate‘s spacious apartment, you forget where you are. Kate, one half of the Minneapolis-based custom hand-painted and printed wallpaper and furnishings company She She, lucked out when she nabbed this spacious, bright, and beautiful upper floor apartment.

While Kate’s space would look good on almost anyone, I’m confident when I say Kate is the best thing that has ever happened to this place. From the custom She She pieces in no less than four rooms, to the tasteful placement of vintage hats and plates full of found rocks, Kate has brought life to this aging brownstone.

It should come as no surprise that Kate is an artist. In addition to spending her time at She She with her pal Jennifer, Kate is also a print and pattern designer for everyone’s favorite store, Target!

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style/Inspiration: Collected and curated—I aimed to create a space that has layered eclecticism without looking like a Tuesday Morning store.

Favorite Element: The Light! It floods in, in every room. I am an illustrator by trade so natural lighting is at the top of the list for me. I’ve enjoyed turning areas of my apartment into cozy retreats for the long winter months—the natural light combined with greenery and fresh florals appeases the eventual winter blues!

Biggest Challenge: My toilet and its 1920s plumbing. It has a mind of its own and usually only flushes three times an hour.

What Friends Say: I get, “Your place is so cozy!” or “It’s so big!”

Biggest Embarrassment: It can be embarrassing how dim I keep my place at night. I primarily use lamp lighting and it looks like a ’70s sex den at times. But, in a good way…

Proudest DIY: Hand-painted wallpapers from She She.

Biggest Indulgence: Moroccan rugs from Arden Trading Co.

Best Advice: To not feel rushed to furnish and style your entire place all at once! I’ve been trying to grow into my space slowly and add in missing details when I can afford to or find the right piece. I love picking things up on my travels—it’s like a treasure hunt of sorts.

Dream Projects: I’m always trying to hold myself back from painting all of the walls in my apartment… But, I’m thinking of creating a tile pattern for my kitchen wall next!
