Our 650 square foot apartment is located in Dumbo in Brooklyn, in a former warehouse, which was gut-renovated in 2011. It has one bedroom with a den, and an open plan kitchen, dining and living space.

My husband and I live here with our two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, and the place is a mix of our styles; my husband is drawn to minimal spaces with lots of color, whereas I am more of a modernist with a tendency toward neutrals and a love of layering textiles.

The apartment was designed on a dime, with most smaller furniture pieces and accessories being found at fleas markets, antique stores, and Etsy. Other sources include Organic Modernism, Blu Dot, West Elm and Canvas Home.

Window treatments in the living room were a cheap and effective way to widen the narrow space, and the lucite coffee table disappears, helping not to crowd the small living room.
