The smallest decor details are often the ones that cause me to do a double-take, especially when they glimmer or catch the light. Couple this with the fact that they’re totally vintage, and you’ll get why I’m a big fan of what are known as “skiffers” — a Victorian-era antique detail that is making a comeback this year. They’re totally perfect for adding that polished charm onto any corner in your kitchen, living room, or even bathroom — but they also serve a practical purpose in busy households.

Kerry sourced her particular accessory from the UK-based company Broughton’s, which offers them in a variety of sizes, shapes, and finishes. But these days, you can find similar options on Amazon, and luckily they look just as vintage-esque. These skiffers, which come in a pack of five for $12, feature an antique bronze finish similar to Kerry’s. Each one attaches to the baseboard with six screws; all you need to do is mark and pre-drill pilot holes, then install! So easy, yet so impactful.

Although a three-pronged shape seems to be the most popular, you can actually find this detail in a variety of different shapes and finishes. A popular set from Etsy is perfect for botanical lovers and comes in three different finishes — antique brass, polished brass, or polished nickel. You can grab just two to try out, or order a set of 20 to furnish your entire home.

Now that you know that skiffers exist, you’re probably never going to look at your baseboards the same way again. Skiffers may not be the most noticeable feature in any room, but they’re subtly glam, elevating any space to make it look fully custom.
