People Are Putting Tiny Skirts on Their Wine Glasses — and I’m Completely Charmed

This little decor twist for your next happy hour soirée is so easy, I think I honestly could do it with just a few minutes to spare before guests arrive. It all revolves around the classic paper doily, which can be sourced in a small pack, like this one from Michaels. They should be about the same size as the base of your wine glasses, but it’s OK if they’re a bit larger — this will just add to the dramatic effect!

From there, you’ll need to do the following:

• Cut a slit into the center of each doily using scissors.
• Then cut a small hole in the center of the doily for the stem of your wine glass. Don’t worry about being too exact with this.
• Punch two holes into the doily on each side of the slit you cut.
• Write your guest’s name on the doily. You can get creative with your penmanship or use fun markers or pencils to add a pop of color!
• Slip the doily onto your wine glass and use a decorative ribbon or length of twine to secure it in place using the holes you punched.

You can decorate your doilies with markers, pencils, or even watercolor paints before attaching them to your wine glass. And you can further customize the skirt for each guest by using a variety of different ribbons or yarns as the skirt ties. Or, stamp your guest’s name with alphabet letter stamps rather than writing. There are so many ways to branch off and make this DIY unique to you. And if you’re careful (no spills!), you can save the skirts to use again at the next function.
