I Used to Wake Up Multiple Times a Night Until I Tried Sleep Number’s Latest Mattress
When you share a bed with someone, it’s possible that you’ll have different mattress preferences. At least, that’s the case for me and my fiancé, Jeremy. He’s a side and back sleeper, so he likes a firmer mattress, while I’m a stomach sleeper and like something softer that I can sink into. Our differing opinions became very apparent when I was testing mattress toppers for our Best List of mattress toppers, and Jeremy was naturally testing them with me.
So when I was offered the chance to test Sleep Number’s ComfortNext™ mattress, I was eager to try the mattress that can be personalized to each individual sleeper’s preferences. After testing it for one week, I can safely say that it’s changed our sleep routine for the better.

Standout Features
With the premium delivery upgrade for $250, Sleep Number’s service team installed the ComfortNext™ Lux mattress in my bedroom in just 20 minutes. The mattress was very easy to pair with Sleep Number’s app, and I was able to start adjusting the bed to my preferences instantly — I was even able to name whose side was whose. But even before I started adjusting the firmness, the top layer of foam was so soft that I laid down immediately and was comfortable. The mattress itself is 13 inches thick, but with the added Sleep Number foundation I received (for $449), it ended up being 21 inches tall — a good thing to keep in mind, as there aren’t dimensions online.
Sleep Number also includes a test in its app to help you find your ideal setting. Jeremy and I took the test that night. To do so, the mattress started at 0 (the softest setting) and increased in increments of 5 until 100 (the firmest setting). I could stop the test at any time when I reached a number I liked the most. The test was a little frustrating, though, because it wasn’t very clear what I was supposed to do until I had repeated it twice. I had also hoped the test would help me determine the setting I needed, rather than having me do it myself — especially because while I find the softer settings more comfortable, I’m not sure whether that’s what my body needs for proper support.
How the Sleep Number ComfortNext™ Lux Mattress Performed
Once Jeremy and I figured out what settings we liked best for our respective sides (he likes it at 65, whereas I like it softer at 35), we fell asleep like normal. The next morning, Jeremy had “the best night’s sleep in a very long time,” and I woke up energized and ready to start the day (which rarely happens because I am definitely not a morning person). Our previous mattress, which Jeremy had used for over 10 years, had been a bit firmer than we both liked. So the upgrade from a standard spring mattress to an adjustable microcoil foam mattress changed everything for us.
After the first few nights, I adjusted my settings with a tap of a button to find a better fit (from 20 to 35 firmness), and since then I’ve slept amazingly — I can finally stay asleep throughout the night. I especially love that the app can give me insights into my sleeping habits — specifically when I had restful and restless sleep, and my breathing and heart rate. If my average scores change, I can adjust the firmness level to ensure everything stays the same and doesn’t disrupt my sleep. It’s been eye-opening to see what areas I struggle in and how I can improve my sleep.
