Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there. When I bought this condo, I fell in love with the huge windows and vibrant community. As a first-time homeowner I was excited to make my mark in a way that I was never able to do when renting. I love the simplicity and brightness of Scandinavian design, but also bright colors and pop art. For me, I crave a space that is bright and clean but also cozy and inviting. Multiple friends have told me that my place is “Very Jen.” So I guess you could describe my space as “Jen-tastic!”
I am a sentimental person and love family heirlooms. I treasure my Swedish horses, especially the one from my Nana’s house. I also have these funky glass grapes that I always admired as a kid going to my grandparent’s house. Now they live on the ledge over my bed. The Richard Avedon portrait of Paul McCartney definitely encapsulates my style. I love the music of the Beatles, I love the colors purple and blue, and I love the pop art style of that print. I bought that print for $20 at a flea market and had it hidden behind my dresser for years. “Sir Paul,” as I call him, has now found his home.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or fewer: Bright, comfortable, functional.
What is your favorite room and why? I love my bedroom! My bedroom showcases my colorful collection of travel mementos. The throw pillow covers are from Greece, India, and Brazil. Textile souvenirs don’t take up much room in my suitcase or in the closet! I also love to buy art when I travel, and the DIY picture ledge has plenty of room to grow. By designating my bedroom as my place for showcasing art and mementos, I’m able to keep the main living space calming and clear of clutter.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? My Sputnik plant! A neighbor was selling propagated cuttings from her plant, so I bought one and it’s been THRIVING in my bright windowsill.
Any advice for creating a home you love? Take your time! Don’t be afraid to change your mind if something isn’t working.
