Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: Hi! I’m Alivia Fields, a photographer and blogger living in Portland, Oregon with a focus on sustainability and intentional living. My husband, Zachary, and I are newly married, and our two bed/two bath apartment has been such an ideal living space for our first year together! (Although I must mention this is only a stepping stone as we’re currently building our first house!).
As a photographer, I knew our space needed to be photographable for daily creations as I work from home (shout out to the second bedroom/office) and truly work best in a well lit, pretty space. Zach is a pilot, so honestly he just wanted airplanes everywhere, which I was not about, for obvious aesthetic reasons.
When deciding on “our style,” we worked with a design team at Mackenzie Collier Interiors in their Scheme Design program to help us mesh my warm-toned boho style with Zach’s more modern, cool-toned style.
I’ll admit, I was really afraid of the color blue before we did this makeover, but now I’m seeing it in a whole new light! Our design team named our style “down to earth,” to embody the colors and textures of earth and sky, and the space where they meet on the horizon, so hello lots of earthy tones… not just the orange ones, hehe.
We truly love our little oasis of a space for its big floor-to-ceiling windows and open floor plan. It’s truly a breath of fresh air.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Inviting, warm, simple, sustainable.
What is your favorite room and why? My favorite room would be our living room/kitchen combo. It’s where we spend all of our time and really put a lot of effort into styling. It embodies our styles and personalities perfectly, with a little bit of something for each of us.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? Last thing I bought was a giant (really, it’s huge) vase from Target for some pampas grass I recently acquired. It really is larger than it looks, so purchase with caution.
Any advice for creating a home you love? Think simply, and then think outside the box. Filling our space with just a few really unique and quality pieces has definitely been the way to go, and we’re so excited to see how these pieces will evolve once we bring them into our new space!
