A Small Seattle Home Is Urban Modern with a Touch of Bohemian
Name: Vonny Halim and husband Kevin
Location: Capitol Hill — Seattle, Washington
Size: 525 square feet
Rent or owned: Renting
I live here with my husband, Kevin. We are originally from Auckland, New Zealand. We moved to the U.S. in 2016 and lived for two years in San Francisco before deciding to move to Seattle. I love crisp winter air and gloomy weather, and Seattle has both which makes it perfect for me to knit. Kevin (@nbaayy) is a sports content creative; he makes fan art for the NBA, NFL, and MLB. You can tell from the sport pieces in our home.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Urban modern with a touch of bohemian.
What is your favorite room and why? The living room is the coziest area; the color palettes are warm and inviting. When we were apartment hunting, we fell in love with this unit because of the paint. The dark blue paint really makes a difference and it makes our furniture pop out. It is brightly lit with big windows. You can’t beat the view of the city from our apartment. On a gorgeous day we can see Mt. Rainier. At night with the string lights and candle, the room is perfect to wind down and I feel right at home.
If you could magically change something about your home, what would it be? Put a skylight!
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? We were looking for a new plant for our macrame planter. We went to this cute plant shop in our neighborhood (Plant Shop Seattle), and we found our plant. We found the pot that fits perfectly with the planter from Homestead Seattle.
Any advice for creating a home you love? Fill your home with artwork/memorable pieces from your travels. Also lots of plants! Be bold with playing with textures and colors. My favorites are navy, dark green, and mustard—it’s hygge.
Thanks, Vonny!
