We’ve come across our fair share of delightfully freakish Airbnb digs, but this latest temporary rental listing is equally over-the-top in a good way, unless you have a snake phobia. For those with a tolerance for scaly, slithering creatures, allow us to suggest a stay at Javier Senosiain’s snake-shaped house during your next trip to Mexico.

Located just outside of Mexico City, the winding, multi-colored structure known as Nido de Quetzalcoatl is coated in a trippy combination of blue, green, orange, and purple shades in an effort to help it blend in with its lush surroundings (a pretty hefty task for a house that resembles an enormous reptile).

The inspiration for the architect’s unique vision came from a massive cave opening that reminded him of a snake head. “One day, I thought that the mouth of the cave resembled a snake’s head with open jaws,” Senosiain tells Designboom of his creation. “We located it in the scale model and noticed that it seemed a virtual snake going in and out of the land–we decided then to place a tail and call it Quetzalcoatl.”

So, what’s it like to spend the night in the belly of this gargantuan beast-modeled home? Believe it not, the interior of the snake home is completely opposite of its playhouse-like exterior. Inside are five bedrooms and two communal areas, plus four bathrooms, a living room, a kitchen, a dining room, and a laundry room. White contoured walls and wooden accents give it an extremely polished and minimalist yet interesting style that actually provides a nice sense of balance from the sensory overload one is likely to experience while viewing the home from the outside.

Multiple outdoor walkways grant an up-close and personal view of the whimsical exterior, which is dotted in windows. The head of the snake faces a fountain and a small pond, but with over 500,000 square feet of surrounding land, the grounds contain much more room for exploration.

Stays start at $222 per night on Airbnb.
