Style for a Steal: The Best Sofas Under $500

A sofa under $500? Yes, it is possible. A while ago I set myself to the challenge of creating a roundup of attractive sofas for less than $1,000 dollars, and was pleasantly surprised by number of appealing options I found. So this time I thought I'd up the ante a bit, and drop the price even lower. Check out what I found.

Emerald Marian Loveseat at World Market, $499

Above: I've always been partial to velvet, and to emerald green, so this little loveseat is hard for me to resist.

Ektorp Sofa with Chaise in beige at IKEA, $499

IKEA's Ektorp sofa is a time-honored classic, and, somewhat astonishingly, you can purchase this 3-seater with a chaise for less than $500. (This price is just for the beige sofa: the other colors will set you back a bit more.)

Karlstad Sofa in Grey at IKEA, $399

Another IKEA classic is the Karlstad, a minimal, almost mid-century design whose price is very, very friendly.

Avenue Greene Reba Gray Sofa at Overstock, $466

For fans of the Florence Knoll sofa (or Crate & Barrel's Petrie) operating on a serious budget, there's the Reba sofa.

Duncan Sofa Bed at Overstock, $492

A stylish sleeper for less than $500? Believe it. I'm quite partial to this sofa's teal color, but if that's not your thing it also comes in a brownish-gray.

Winslow Concave Arm Modern Sofa at Overstock, Starting at $454

This versatile sofa would be equally at home in a modern or more traditionally styled interior. It's available in four different colors.

Traditional Velvet Loveseat at AllModern, $500

Here's yet another velvet loveseat priced at about $500. The channel tufting gives this one a stylish look, and the two matching accent pillows are included.

Finck Sofa at Joss & Main, $370

This gray sofa has a unique, almost Art Deco look, and reviews are very positive, averaging almost four-and-a-half stars.

Mid-century Sofa with USB at AllModern, $490

This sofa's tapered legs give it a clean, light look, and it also has two USB ports (the listing doesn't specify where) so you can charge your phone without even getting off the couch.

Studio Sofa at Amazon, $329

For a stylish mid-century look at a very reasonable price, look to the Baxton, which we think would be particularly good for a compact space due to its visual lightness.

Eve Convertible Futon at Target, $216

It's almost unbelievable to me that you could find a sofa at this price, let alone one that looks this decent, and yet, here we are. This sofa, which folds down to form a bed, gets an average of four stars over 106 reviews, which is really not bad at all.
