I Finally Stopped Losing My Go-To Lip Gloss Thanks to This Ridiculously Cute Organizer

For a New York rental, my apartment has pretty decent bathrooms. Both bathrooms are fairly large and have a modern design, not to mention cool extras that my two roommates and I love, like a ring light built into the medicine cabinet mirror. But no matter how much I love my bathroom, I hate having to stand in it to do my makeup. There’s something about being able to sit and sip my coffee while getting ready that feels so much more relaxing. For the past year, I kept telling myself I’d get a vanity for my bedroom. 

When a roommate change resulted in me sharing a bathroom with someone who gets ready for work at the exact same time as me, I could no longer put off getting a vanity. I realized that I’d need an organizer for it to hold all of my makeup, so I turned to one of the best home organization destinations on the internet: SONGMICS.

This makeup organizer makes great use of vertical space. It measures 12.5 inches across and 8 inches deep. I chose it because each of its four tiers serves as a different kind of storage compartment. At the top, you have a tray with four adjustable dividers that you fashion into a grid. This layer is handy for smaller makeup items, like lipsticks, tubes of concealer, and mascara. 

Underneath, there’s another open surface that can hold taller products and bear more weight than the top layer. It’s a solid spot for hair products and makeup brushes. You also get two short but wide drawers that are sized perfectly for eye shadow palettes and powders.

The pieces arrived packaged separately, but all I had to do for assembly was lock the dividers together for the top layer and attach said layer to the drawers via four metal rods. If you want, you can keep the top and bottom layers separate. Everything but the rods is made of plastic, which feels fairly thick and durable. Still, I would not overload the top layer. Overall, the organizer has a weight capacity of 30 pounds, but the bottom layers naturally feel the most stable.

Truth be told, I did not expect this organizer to be able to hold all of my makeup. Not only did it do that, but I even had space left over for most of my skincare, too. Save for my six eye shadow palettes, I’ve stored two of almost everything on the organizer: concealers, lipsticks, foundations, blushes, etc. If I wanted, I could store even more items on the top layer or inside the drawers, but I like how neat and easily accessible all of my items are right now. I’ve kept all of the layers stacked together, and I love how everything sits vertically, so I still have space on my vanity for other items, like a mirror and hair products.

In addition to proving highly practical for everyday use, the organizer is also way more stylish than an average makeup organizer. I appreciate its sleek design, which is available in either a white or transparent finish. I opted for the white, as it matches my white vanity mirror, and now everything on my vanity looks like it could’ve been bought together in a set. 

I do wish the gold accents weren’t quite so yellow-toned, but it’s a small detail I can look past. I should also note that if you’re seated and trying to reach something on the top layer of the organizer, you might have to stand if you have kind of a low vanity chair, like I do. As a whole, though, I have no trouble accessing all of my makeup.
