“I love that every last detail of my home was thoughtfully chosen, and that it feels like an extension of me,” writes “Southern Charm” star Chelsea Meissner. She purchased this large Charleston house in April of this year and worked with interior designer and friend Kim Spradlin Wolfe (who Chelsea met on CBS’s “Survivor” a few years back) to renovate. She finally moved in last month and has been enjoying the first home she can truly call her own.

“Kim nailed it; she’s knows me so well and everyone who walks through the door says how ‘me’ it is. I spent my 20s bouncing around from place to place and roommate to roommate. I’ve never had a place to call my own—that really feels like a home—and this is definitely that.”

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style: Eclectic, laid back, boho, and a bit edgy.

Inspiration: Kim: My inspiration for the design and vibe of the house was Chelsea; I really wanted it to exude the same easy, welcoming, undone beauty that she does.

Favorite Element: Chelsea: The wallpaper in my master bedroom. It was a last minute add, and it changed the whole room. I love that it somehow feels moody and tranquil at the same time. I never want to leave.

Biggest Challenge: Kim: The previous owner had done a lot of DIY gone wrong. Every room had different flooring, and every wall was a different color. It felt dark and outdated. The biggest challenge was creating a better flow and a cohesive vibe throughout!

Proudest DIY: Chelsea: Scraping the popcorn ceilings throughout the entire house by myself! People kept telling me how hard it would be, and that I would be sorry if I didn’t hire someone to do it for me! My mom and I knocked it out in 1.5 days, and saved $2K. It wasn’t THAT bad.

Biggest Indulgence: Kim: The hand-painted clay tiles for the kitchen backsplash. I knew she would love it if I could talk her into a whole lot of green, and it wasn’t a “cheap” tile, but it is literally the most amazing impact. Everyone who comes into the kitchen is a bit taken aback by it. It’s stunning, it’s art. The extra cost was totally worth it!

Chelsea on the tile: I got goosebumps when I opened the box and saw the tiles. They literally look like the ocean, I’m obsessed.

Best Advice: Chelsea: To trust yourself, and go with your gut. A lot throughout the remodel I second guessed myself and didn’t think we would be able to pull it off. But I realized in the end that the vision was there all along, we were just watching it unfold in stages, which is sometimes painful.
