I once heard someone say your home should feel like a hug at the end of a long day. That simple statement has been the inspiration for my decorating style. It is not easy making a temporary place feel rooted, but I have found it to be the personal details that have turned this apartment into home.

I have infused my personality into every nook and cranny. It’s turning a piece of IKEA furniture into art (accountant by day, crafter by night). It’s taking collected memories and displaying them to tell the stories. It’s turning an old mirror into a chalkboard and filling it with encouraging quotes. It’s taking a birdcage from a flea market and stringing in it glitter-paper birds (because there aren’t any animals allowed in this building).

I am most proud of my living room. I have designed the space to make all my friends and family feel welcome (seating is key). It has hosted wine/cupcake/Scandal nights, Cinco de Mayo festivities, Ugly Christmas Sweater/White Elephant parties and random “just because” gatherings. The best compliment I receive is that it feels like home.

My most personal piece is my butterfly wall (thanks Etsy!) Many times butterflies are cheesy. For me, butterflies are a reminder of the beauty of life. “Just when the caterpillar thought its life was over, it became a butterfly…”
