True friends seem to know everything about you — whether it’s finishing your sentences, surprising you with your favorite snack, or even recommending a potential new home. Designer Anne Tu Quoc experienced this act of friendship firsthand.

“I heard about this house from a friend who was looking for a house at the same time as we were,” Anne, who owns petitmai, writes. “She had visited it but did not like it. Then she gave me the number of the owner who had not yet advertised the house.”
The house in question was a four-bedroom, around 1,900-square-foot space that was nestled in Fribourg, a city on the German-speaking side of Switzerland (right next to the French-speaking side!), Anne shares. (The home’s location is a bonus, as her family — which includes her partner, Marc, and kids, Lenox and Finn Henry — speaks both languages.)
Anne visited the house by herself and was instantly charmed by its unique details. Not only was the location exactly where the family wanted to live, but it also had a leafy garden with huge windows that had extensive views of the exterior trees.
There were sentimental details that Anne appreciated, too. Namely, it seemed like fate that the previous owner had the same name as her and that the house number was 22, which is Anne’s birth date. When Anne toured the home, it was still furnished the same way it had originally been decorated 43 years before, and she could envision all of the potential in the space.
“All in all, it was just a warm feeling in my stomach that told me that we would feel comfortable here,” Anne writes of her home.
Around two years have passed since the family moved in, and they’ve entirely reimagined the space — Anne actually did most of the renovations herself. Along the way, they even welcomed Mitsu, a cat, into their family. It’s fair to assume they’ve all experienced that “warm feeling” since moving into the gorgeous house.
