There’s something so magical about parading through the aisles of a local antique or vintage store on the quest for a treasure to take home. And while it’s usually best to go secondhand shopping with an open mind, experts agree there’s one particular item to be on the lookout for in 2025.

Apartment Therapy recently asked 154 designers to weigh in on the biggest upcoming trend predictions as part of the fifth annual The State of Home Design Survey. They shared insights on everything from popular patterns to paint trends, as well as the vintage item they expect to be everywhere this coming year. Turns out, a majority of designers said 2025 will be all about sourcing textiles, specifically vintage (or vintage-inspired) quilts and tapestries that add a soft, cozy touch to a space.

According to designer Kevin Billings, you can expect to see “a lot of early American quilts both used literally [and] as pattern inspiration” in 2025. Designer Laura Kern Hennessey agrees, adding that more people will likely look to explore various iterations of these soft goods. “Tapestries and woven art of all kinds, from Flemish Romantics to Art Nouveau Embroidery to Gunta Stölzl weavings, will continue to be really popular,” she notes.

The beauty of this vintage trend is that tapestries make for stunning large-scale wall art, so you can prioritize one statement focal point versus collecting various pieces of art for a gallery wall. These textiles also help tie in a color story or create one in a more neutral setting

You can even consider framing or simply hanging a vintage rug or quilt on the wall, too. In fact, designer Courtney Sempliner expects patchwork and quilted motifs to have a huge resurgence in general as part of a rising “folksy vibe.” Just note that some vintage textiles might not be in the best condition. So if that’s the case, you can also use it as upholstery and recover seat cushions, or make some throw pillows for your couch.

Additionally, look for items inspired by these textiles. You might find pottery featuring tapestry-like storytelling or placemats with quilt-like patchwork details at a local thrift store or even a craft fair. You could also buy vintage wood frames — or an old wooden bench or stool — and paint them with traditional tapestry details or patchwork designs, like the star quilts you may have seen all over TikTok.

No matter how you choose to incorporate this designer-approved vintage trend into your space next year, these unique textiles (or textile-inspired decor) will instantly add a cozier, lived-in feel to any room.
