One thing that can instantly elevate the look of your home, whether you own or rent, is a great window treatment. Hanging curtains on your windows makes your space look cozy and helps add a sense of privacy. Some types can even help cut down on heating and cooling costs. Custom-order curtains can be wildly pricey, but some clever DIYs can help you get the look you want without blowing your whole budget. Case in point: This hack that uses a set of $5 kitchen towels from Target to create chic cafe curtains.

The DIY, which commenters call “so cute” and “so smart,” comes from TikToker @justrachelv. To create her vintage-look curtains, Rachel turned to an unexpected source: Target’s kitchen aisle, where she purchased a set of kitchen towels for just $5 for the pair.

The only other supplies Rachel needed were a curtain rod (she used a tension rod, but you can use whatever fits your window best) and curtain clips. If you’re wanting to copy the look, make sure that whatever curtain clips you buy have a large enough diameter to fit your curtain rod of choice.

To hang the curtains, Rachel clipped evenly spaced rings to the tops of each tea towel. Then, she slid those over her curtain rod and added the rod to the window. That’s it! The result is a vintage-look cafe curtain that costs way less than something ready-made.

The exact towels shown are Target’s Threshold brand, and come in a pretty rust-and-cream striped pattern that feels just right for fall. And this hack is so inexpensive that, as one commenter notes, you could change your curtains out seasonally for a quick refresh.
