Target’s Opalhouse Line Is Officially a Year Old, and Spoiler Alert: We’re Still Obsessed
When Target introduced their Opalhouse line last year it was a surprise departure from the more classic, everyday pieces the store was known for. All of a sudden we were hit with an explosion of texture and color and an array of furnishings that were at once boho chic and maximalist-friendly, and AT’s edit team was immediately hooked. In the words of our Managing Editor, Sarah Yang: “Opalhouse is my personal brand.”
Now that the line has been around for a full calendar year, we thought it would be fun to take a look at some of our favorite products—some that we already own, and some that are at the top of our wishlists.
“I was in the middle of a bedroom decorating journey when the Opalhouse line launched a year ago, and it felt almost serendipitous when I glanced through the launch day posts and spotted these gems. They were so affordable and unique—they look like something my grandparents would have decorated with in the 70s.” —Taryn Williford, Lifestyle Editor
“I used to keep my makeup and travel stuff in a IKEA RASKOG cart in my bedroom, but the visual clutter started to bother me around the time I started KonMari-ing. So I swapped an acrylic side table for this lovely textured nightstand, and it keeps my Sephora stash hidden in style.” —Tara Bellucci, News & Culture Editor
“Despite unfairly being raised in the Chicago suburbs, in the fictionalized version of Liz Steelman’s life, I am canonically from a coastal town in New England—a.k.a. the only way it would make sense why someone could love navy blue so much. Baskets are beautiful because they allow you to have many things but hide them, something a messy person like real life Liz Steelman needs. This basket combines these two conflicting ideas, beautifully, allowing me to be the person of my dreams but also catering to my flaws. Thank you Opalhouse, for being the support I need in this trying time, which is my life.” —Liz Steelman, Real Estate Editor
Ceramic Printed Bird House Green, $16.99
“I don’t own this cute birdhouse yet, but as soon as I move into my new place I plan on making this one of my first purchases for the outdoor space. I was pleasantly surprised to see a birdhouse featured at all… and the price is just right. Fingers crossed the neighborhood birds appreciate high style at a low price.” —Adrienne Breaux, House Tour Editor
“I have a perfectly fine desk which is why I haven’t bought this Opalhouse one—but I think about it a lot. I love a very minimalist writing desk that still has plenty of flair (and just enough storage for pens and iPhone chargers but not so much storage it gets cluttered). I also love Opalhouse’s Indochine aesthetic, but some pieces would have a hard time blending into more subtle design styles. Not so with this one. Okay, I think I may have finally talked myself into buying it” —Marshall Bright, Commerce Editor
Cast Brass Snake Picture Frame, $14.99
“As a proud self-identified Slytherin, I just can’t get enough of snakes (well, unless they’re alive and anywhere near me). I wear a snake ring every day, and am so tempted to pick up this textured picture frame to add a little extra flair to my dresser.” —Bridget Mallon, Design Editor
“Now that spring is here, I’ve been getting bored of my all-white bathroom and am now craving some color. My small bathroom isn’t really suited for bold prints and vibrant tones, so I love this soft blue shower curtain. It’s calming and pleasant to look at it, plus the pom fringe at the bottom just makes me smile.” —Nicole Lund, Assistant Commerce Editor
“To me, this pillow is the pillow of the summer. Tassels? Check. Tropical vibes? Check. Colors and patterns galore? Check. It’s an outdoor pillow, so it’s perfect to update a patio for warmer weather, but it also works inside, too, for those who aren’t blessed with a backyard.”—Sarah Yang, Managing Editor
Rattan Elephant Basket Natural, $24.99
“So, this Opalhouse pick combines two of my favorite things—inanimate objects shaped like animals and baskets. Baskets are a go-to home decor move of mine, mainly because I am not a tidy person. I am not ashamed to say I often have clothes piled up on my bedroom chair (here’s how to combat that) and various knick knacks strewn about almost all flat surfaces in my apartment. Enter: baskets! I am a big fan of just hiding the mess, or semi organizing the mess by theme, in various baskets that make me look like I am an organized and generally put-together person. Plus: cute animals! What’s not to love about a wise elephant in a classic rattan?” – Caroline Ammarell, Senior Content Strategy Editor
Caracara Rounded Back Counter Stool, $149.99
“These gorgeous chairs were a winning compromise for counter stools between my husband and I. He wanted something upholstered, but everything in our budget looked so rigid that I couldn’t find anything that would work. Finding these on sale on Target’s site was a relief—they’re pretty and comfortable!” —Kaitlin Flannery, Senior Social Media Manager
“As someone with a black thumb, this faux bonsai tree is my dream come true. Plus, who wouldn’t love that stylish gold planter?” —Nicoletta Richardson, Senior Associate News & Culture Editor
