A Stylish Anti-Theft Backpack (You Can Stop Wearing Yours Backwards Now)
Well, Spring has finally sprung (at least for us here in New York City!) and I know everyone — myself included — is starting to get that warm weather travel bug. There’s nothing quite like a backpack when you’re traveling, and while any loyal Apartment Therapy reader knows that we simply LOVE to talk about luggage, there’s a new kid on the block. Today I’m excited to share Bobby, which I first saw at the New York Now show a few months ago. He’s cooler, safer, and more versatile than your average suitcase and there’s no backpack quite like him on the market.
The Backstory
Bobby was the brainchild of designers Thomas Droze and KaiFeng Duan of XD Design. Thomas was originally inspired when he noticed people walking through the busy streets of Paris carrying their backpacks on their fronts — for fear of theft in crowded spaces. He wanted to create a bag that could be completely anti-theft but that would still maintain the convenience of a typical backpack. KaiFeng noticed the exact same scene in Shanghai and loved Bobby’s design, but wanted to include a few added key features, a more feminine shape, and some bright new colors. Between the two of them, they refined Bobby to be the most ideal bag it could be.
How It Works
Bobby has much more to offer than what meets the eye. A few of the most notable features in my eyes:
- Anti-Theft: The zippers are hidden and the bag is totally cut-proof. There’s no easy way in unless you know how to do it.
- Convenient: Pockets on the outside (and tons more hidden within) means it doesn’t have to be a hassle to find what you’re looking for. You can also easily access the inside by propping it open to 30º, 90º or 180º.
- Lightweight and comfortable: Typical backpacks carry the weight of the items toward the front of the bag, which puts pressure on your shoulders. Bobby distributes the weight toward the back so you feel it about 20-25% less.
- Smart Features: Includes a USB port for charging your mobile devices on the go, a mini backpack that contains a folded tote bag, a rain cover, reflective patches for night travel, and a luggage strap to attach it easily to a rolling suitcase.
Perfect For
Just about anyone who is seeking safety, convenience, and style in a bag — not just for those with wanderlust! While it certainly lends itself to stress-free travel, it’s also ideal for all of us who consider commuting to be a regular part of our lives. I got the compact version (available in some gorgeous colors!) but it comes in a larger size as well. And let’s be real, $95 is a small price to pay for peace of mind.
