Stylish sofas are easy to find at lower price points; a quick search on any online marketplace such as Amazon will result in some good-looking options. An affordable, stylish and comfortable sofa? Well, that’s another (trying) story. In an effort to find these unicorn sofas, test them and report back, we started the Apartment Therapy Sofa Squad, in which we go retailer to retailer (and sofa to sofa) doing IRL tests and giving each an overall rating. As the fashion-forward (and more budget conscious) offspring of Crate & Barrel, we knew CB2 would have to on our hit list.

Four editors set off to the brand’s SoHo location in Manhattan, rating the 12 sofas on the floor for depth, firmness, height, sit (how upright the back is), overall comfort, and of course, if it was a prime napping spot. All scores were tallied and averaged to boil down the numbers to an overall rating.

A little info about CB2:

As mentioned previously, CB2 is the more modestly priced and on trend “little brother” of Crate & Barrel. Like it’s sibling, many of CB2’s sofas are crafted in the USA, though some are made outside the states (be sure to check product descriptions if that is a selling point for you).

Testers’ Thoughts

→ “This is a beast of a sofa (in terms of length.) It’s pretty deep, but very low, which is okay for the vertically challenged like myself, but could be uncomfortable for anyone taller than 5’3″.” – Arlyn Hernandez

→ “The Brava is bigger than most twin beds! This would be good for supreme lounging, but less for sitting.” – Dabney Frake

→ “I don’t get it. It wasn’t soft, but it wasn’t firm. It’s in a weird softness limbo.” – Brittney Morgan

Testers’ Thoughts

→ “So adorable! It’s great for a tiny studio when you can nap on your bed, because it’s way too short to lay down on” – Tara Bellucci

→ “I felt like this was cute but way too stiff and small. The arms are awkwardly high, and I’m relatively tall.” – Brittney Morgan

→ “The recently released Matt Williamson print is thumbs up.” – Tara Bellucci

Testers’ Thoughts

→ “If I was looking for a sofa to curl up on to watch TV, instead of sitting on to chat with company, this would be a nice option. It’s SO DEEP!” – Dabney Frake

Tester’s Thoughts

→ “Very cute caned daybed that works as both a sofa (with a ton of pillows behind you for support) and a bed, though the mattress itself is pretty thin. It also felt a little rickety to me.” – Dabney Frake

→ “I just couldn’t take the mattress on this. It felt like a cot, but it sure is a cute cot.” – Arlyn Hernandez
