If Mallory and David’s Brooklyn rental looks familiar, it may be that you’ve caught a drool-worthy snapshot of it on her Instagram account, which has over 71K followers. It’s no wonder. Flooded with light and filled with a beautiful mix of one-of-a-kind art pieces and fun furniture finds, it’s the kind of dreamy space that will have you looking at all the details (and popping into the resource list below to discover the sources!).

Mallory is the founder and owner of The Reserve, “a thoughtfully and curated vintage textiles and accessories shop, with a focus on ethically sourced handwoven rugs, poufs, and pillows.” Her home (and luckily for her customers, also her shop) is filled with these colorful, patterned vintage textiles from Morocco, which give the space a sort of sumptuous softness. But these materials—some antiques—also lend the space a feeling of timelessness, even with the youthful modern colors and pieces also interspersed around the space.

The rental apartment is also heavily influenced by Mallory’s partner David, who is an artist and also Collections Manager at the The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Together they’ve turned what could have been a challenging space—a shotgun apartment (where all the rooms flow right into one another)—into an inspiring home where they can also work and be creative in.

Our Style: Modern bohemian with a hint of mid-century modern.

Inspiration: Australian architecture, Parisian Apartments, Florine Stettheimer paintings, Henri Rousseau Jungle Series, Art Deco design.

Favorite Element: Our art collection. Most of the pieces were acquired when we were living in Kansas City and many of them are by friends of ours, so they also carry sentimental value in our home.

Biggest Challenge: Creating the feeling and cohesive look of different “rooms” in a shotgun apartment with few walls to separate them.

What Friends Say: “There is always something new to look at here!”

Biggest Embarrassment: Our far-from-updated kitchen. We took the cabinet doors off and added open shelving, but there’s not a whole lot we can do about that stove hood that haunts our dreams—ha!

Proudest DIY: Adding decorative moldings in the bedroom to match the look and feel of our living space. It elevated the style by leaps and bounds.

Biggest Indulgence: Our houseplant collection—those suckers are not cheap!

Best Advice: Invest in art when you can, as it adds so much to a home. Also, when in doubt about what to fill a space with, choose a few plants.
