As a couple, Jolene Crawford and Mil Stricevic (plus their four daughters) have lived in this apartment in the Kelvingrove neighborhood in Glasgow, Scotland, for nine-and-a-half years. But remarkably, Mil’s history with this space goes back further: “Mil grew up in this flat, which his mum and stepdad purchased in the ’70s to raise their family,” Jolene explains.

"We also recently upholstered our Italian sofa in a budget-friendly manner — we love Bute Fabrics, and Mil had the brilliant idea of using a mixture of their end-of-line colorways, which were only available in small lengths, but because we are fans of the ‘irregular’ we simply bought a few colors, and randomly mixed them up — a real bargain, saving about 70% on the cost."

“Having been offices for many years, they transformed it back into a family home decorated throughout with antiques, curios, and William Morris wallpaper (of which one wall remains),” she continues.

“Nine years ago they asked us if we would move in to help look after them, as they increasingly needed help. They actually owned the next-door flat, too, and it had been knocked through to create an enormous townhouse on two levels, and so we simply divided them back into two homes, and moved in.”

“It’s a beautiful street overlooking the park and was within walking distance of the kids’ schools, our work, the west end of town and the center of town so we jumped at the opportunity.” Only one daughter, 17-year-old Bella, is still living at home. The creative couple also launched a business in this flat!

Irregular Sleep Pattern is a global bedding and sleepwear brand creating products designed “at the intersection of art + utility” that Jolene and Mil had the idea to start in 2017, the year Jolene turned 40 and Mil turned 50.

“I wanted a career change, Mil is a designer, we had joked about a gap in the market for joyous, art-inspired, bold, responsibly produced bedding when we couldn’t find it, and when we hit these milestone ages we decided it was now or never!” Jolene reveals of their business, which was started from the bedroom of this very apartment.

Perhaps it’s no surprise that a vibrant, energetic clothing brand was born from this space — the apartment is also a colorful explosion of bold wall paint colors and exciting patterns. But it’s not all work in their home. “We also LOVE to have a party in it — we have so much space, it’s absolutely perfect for parties. We even had our wedding party in the kitchen!”
