Brandon purchased the house sight-unseen, but was surprisingly pleased with the outcome. Originally built in 1962, though the ranch-style home had been remodeled by the previous owners, it was still a blank enough canvas for Brandon to put his mark on it. Not too mention it was on a large lot and just the right size for a single man. He sought the professional expertise of Amber Guyton of Blessed Little Bungalow to assist him with turning the interior to a mid-century modern style with a colorful yet Southern flair.

Apartment Therapy Survey

Designer Amber Guyton’s inspiration: In our first meeting, Brandon described himself as a someone not afraid of color, pattern, and paisley. I used that as my inspiration for his home. From the paisley and floral curtains hanging in the formal living room to the bold colors and patterns carried into the family room and primary bedroom, I made sure that Brandon’s style was seen at every turn. We also filled each space with his collection of artwork, college football and fraternity memorabilia, and love for music and traveling.

Homeowner’s favorite element: Brandon’s favorite element in his home is the artwork. Some are collections from his international travels, and others are pieces he either painted himself or commissioned from local artists.

Designer Amber Guyton’s favorite element: The family room at the rear of the home is my favorite space. I love the black brick wall and the orange sectional sofa we selected to brighten up the room. It’s the perfect spot to unwind with a movie and glass of wine or entertain a group of friends for any occasion.

Is there something unique about the home or the way you use it? During the pandemic, Brandon decided to swap his guest room space with the home office, allowing him more room to work remotely and work out with his kettlebells.

What’s your absolute best home secret or decorating advice? Designer Amber Guyton – Your home should be a reflection of you! Ignore the rules — they are all fake. Fill your home with elements that make you happy and invest in furniture that will stand the test of time. Lastly, decorating is a marathon, not a sprint. Don’t rush the process, and leave room to allow your home and style to evolve over time.
