This Stunning 29-Acre Scottish Island Is For Sale
If you’re looking for a Scottish getaway, it doesn’t get much better than Little Ross Island. This 29 acre property is for sale, and entertaining offers over £325,000 (around $427,000).
Little Ross Island is off the southwest coast of Scotland, quite close to the mainland and down the River Dee from the town of Kirkcudbright. The island has astounding views of open sea, the coastline, countryside, the Isle of Man and the Lake District.
The island’s 29 acres (more at low tide but the listing notes “that is owned by Her Majesty the Queen”) is home to a 19th century B-Listed working lighthouse that was hailed by Lord Kelvin as “undoubtedly [one of] the three best revolving lights in the world.” It is still owned and operated by the Commissioners for Northern Lighthouses and not included in the sale, though it was automated in the 1960s and doesn’t require full time staff on the premises.
Little Ross Island is blessed with a a natural harbor and pebbly beach, and would be a lovely vacation property or quiet home for people who love to sail. The listing notes that it’s basically a requirement: “Purchasers should be in no doubt that they should be proficient seaman and will require their own boat (or helicopter) to get to and from the Island.” Learn your knots before placing your offers, folks.
