How Tia Mowry Spends Her Perfect Night In
Since the “Sister, Sister” days, actress Tia Mowry has kept busy in both her professional and personal life. For one, Mowry has starred on her own TV series “Tia Mowry at Home” that has aired on the Cooking Channel since 2015. She also has two young children (son Cree, 5, and daughter Cairo, six months), raising them alongside her husband and fellow actor Cory Hardrict.
But a challenge was thrown her way when discovering Cree was highly allergic to peanuts, a sensitivity that affects a large number of kids across the United States. Mowry wants to let others know that they are not alone and that supporting one another is key, which is why she started an educational program focused on creating this community.
To put it simply, Mowry has her plate full with passion projects that aim to make a difference for her family and a wider audience. And with so much heart comes the occasional well-deserved night in. Read on for what her ideal evening at home looks like, with her loved ones right alongside her.
Set The Scene
Your perfect homebody scene in 5 words: Fireplace, blanket, pillow, PJs, and Netflix.
Are you alone or with someone else? With my husband.
Night-in uniform: PJs, something cozy!
What two people, dead or alive, would you let crash your night? Queen B (Beyoncé) and Sade Adu.
Favorite cozy product: Tea makes me feel really cozy.
Now playing
TV or a movie? TV.
What are you watching? “Game of Thrones” or “Stranger Things.”
eBooks or the real deal? Definitely the real deal; have to be able to touch it, turn it, lick my finger to turn the page.
Currently reading? My scripts for my new Netflix television show, “Family Reunion.”
Silence or music? Silence for the night in.
Board games, yay or nay? Yes, Monopoly. It’s a classic.
What’s cooking
Order in or cook for yourself? I would rather cook for myself so I know exactly what I am putting into my body and what I am eating. It’s important for me to know what is in the household and what we are eating. It’s really important that Cree doesn’t have any accidental exposure, and how I know that for sure is when I am preparing and making my own food.
What are you eating? Of course peanut-free options when Cree is snacking with us. Chips and salsa are comforting and he loves it!
What drink are you pouring? Eh, red wine! A shiraz.
What’s for dessert? Warm chocolate chip cookies, so comforting.
Late night snack? Popcorn! Cree loves it and so do I.
Take care
Do you have a self-care ritual? Always wash your face before you go to bed.
What do you try to avoid at all costs? Judging myself and others. There is a lot of mom-shaming around special care for peanut allergy kids, for breastfeeding, or post-baby weight, and it’s not okay. It’s important that all parents be co-protectors of other parents and children.
Candles, yay or nay? Yay! Something very earthy and grounded, not too floral.
Face masks, yay or nay? Yes, yes, yes, yes! It takes more time, but I have noticed a change in my skin. Collagen ones are great.
Bubble bath, yay or nay? YES, bubble bath is a must for me with Sade Adu playing in the background.
Chores, yay or nay? Not on a relaxing day!
Ideal bedtime? If I go to bed at 10 p.m. (which rarely even happens these days) and I get eight hours, that’s my ideal bedtime.
Thanks for giving us a glimpse into your night in, Tia!
