Tom Hanks Is Auctioning His Vintage Car for a Good Cause
Tom Hanks is currently partaking in a charitable auction that proves that he is, in fact, the most loveable actor in Hollywood. As if you needed another reason to like the guy, Hanks has donated his vintage car to raise money for caretakers of wounded veterans — and you can bid on it.
“Check this out! For sale!” Hanks’ wife Rita Wilson announced on Instagram on March 1. “Vintage Polish Fiat owned by my quirky, and quirky car loving husband! It’s personalized, too!”
She added, “When we were graduating high school this baby was driving around Warsaw!”
The 1974 Polski Fiat hatchback was personalized and gifted to Hanks by the city of Bielsko-Biala, Poland in 2017. It features a custom green interior, chrome bumpers, vintage typewriter key door-lock knobs (Hanks is a typewriter collector), a “Forrest Gump” quote on the dash top, matching driving gloves, and Tom Hanks’ signature on the driver-side door.
The battery was just replaced in November 2021, and the fuel system, brakes, and axles were all replaced that same month. It’s currently located in Santa Monica, California and has a clean Idaho title.
The full sale amount will be donated to the Elizabeth Dole Foundation’s Hidden Heroes Campaign, a nonprofit organization chaired by Hanks that provides resources and support to caregivers of wounded service members or veterans.Bidding ends on March 8 and the current bid stands at $31,000 as of this writing. It’s being auctioned off via Bring A Trailer, and anyone who registers with an email account and a credit card number is eligible to bid. You can also sign up to watch the auction, too, in case you don’t have a spare $30,000 lying around but want in on the action.
