A Cool Chicago Condo Didn’t Start Out This Way
Name: Jamie Nuccio, my cat, Ruby
Location: West Loop — Chicago, Illinois
Size: 900 square feet
Years lived in: 1 year, owned
As soon as I walked into this space, I had a strong gut feeling that it was “the one” (it was only the second place that I toured when I started my condo search!). The walls were painted a dingy mint color, the bedroom carpet was hunter green and about 1,000 years old, all of the fixtures and hardware were outdated, but the natural light is amazing and the view and location can’t be beat.
I had my work cut out for me when I bought this place, but it has been so much fun to slowly make upgrades, fill it with pieces that I love, and make the space my own!
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Bright, Intentional, a bit Mid-Century and Modern
What is your favorite room and why? My kitchen, dining, and living space are technically all one room, but my favorite spot is the little dining nook. The space is really narrow and it was impossible to find a table that was the right scale. After an exhaustive search, I found an artist who makes custom wood furniture. He was so talented and accommodating, and let me be part of the design process for my custom dining table! Once the table was complete, my dad and I made a bench using African mud cloth that I had found, which was such a fun project!
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? I just got a new bed (CB2 Drommen Acacia Wood Bed) and mattress delivered this week! I upgraded from a full to a queen size and invested in a “luxury” mattress and it has already changed my life!
If you could magically change something about your home, what would it be? I would LOVE to gut the bathroom and renovate it with an unlimited budget.
Thanks, Jaime!
