A Boho Minimalist Plant Lady’s Brooklyn Rental
Name: Abby Fuller
Location: Williamsburg — Brooklyn, New York
Size: 500 square feet
Years lived in: 3 months, renting
I work in developer relations for Amazon, so I’m on the road a lot! I wanted something that felt homey and comfortable, without requiring a ton of maintenance (i.e., no plants that would die if I left them for 10 days. I killed a lot of them experimenting with this before I finally asked my mom for help!) I work from home when I’m not traveling, so it was important to separate work space from sleeping space. No computers allowed in the bedroom!
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? The last thing I bought was the white locker underneath the TV. I love it. Hides junk away, and I can put more plants on top! Perfection.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Bohemian minimalist plant lady maybe?
What is your favorite room and why? Well it’s pretty much one room, but I think the bedroom.
The whole apartment gets great light. I moved here from the Financial District and it’s incredible how much more light I get without the highrises. I’m team #nevernotjetlagged so sleep when I’m home is important! The bedroom to me feels bright and relaxing and comfortable. I love to drink coffee and read a book with the sun and the plants in the morning. Most chill part of the day!
Any advice for creating a home you love? Comfort over everything! Doesn’t matter if it’s the cutest couch, if it’s not comfortable, you won’t sit on it.
Your home should be a reflection of you, too—I know I like bright colors, but not too much of anything. For me that means bright rugs, and bright prints on the walls, but pretty neutral everywhere else. Include things that make you happy! My absolute favorite thing in the apartment is the cross stitch on the kitchen table—my sister-in-law made it for me for Christmas last year, and it makes me smile whenever I see it.
I also think that creating a home you love doesn’t need to be expensive! Most of my furniture is from IKEA, Amazon, or Etsy—it reflects my personality, but was super affordable.
Thanks, Abby!
