Tamera and her family live in South Austin with their daughter (with a second child on the way!). South Austin, an expanding part of the city, has become increasingly expensive, so Tamera and her family chose to live in a complex where they would have security, convenience to work, and be within their budget.

The apartment is a two-bedroom, one-bathroom on the ground floor. With their new baby coming, instead of adding a move to an already life-changing situation, they decided to make their small space work and convert their master walk-in closet into a small nursery space. Tamera’s eye for sweet details, cool paint colors, and renter-friendly upgrades (see the DIY wood paneled wall in their master bedroom) make for an impressive take on traditional apartment living. It also helps that she is extremely organized, as well!

Apartment Therapy Survey:

Our Style: Eclectic

Inspiration: We have really been inspired by the outdoors and our family. We love all the greenery and family heirlooms. That is what makes it feel like ours!

Favorite Element: I love all our plants!

Biggest Challenge: Keeping our clutter to a minimum.

What Friends Say: “Can you decorate our place?” and “Where is all your stuff?”

Biggest Embarrassment: I’m not embarrassed about our space, but I do wish our complex would let us replace the flooring.

Proudest DIY: The wood wall behind our master bed.

Biggest Indulgence: Plants and lots of paint.

Best Advice: Buy what you like. I feel it’s easy to get lost in your design when you start with “what goes” rather then “I really love this.”

Dream Sources: Urban Outfitters, Apartment Therapy, Natural Gardener.
