One of my biggest challenges at home is dealing with visual clutter. Everyone has it, whether it’s that closet you haven’t sorted out or not-very-glamorous everyday staples like a TV (the ultimate decorating disruptor, if you ask me).

I used to be a strict “no TV in the bedroom” person, but when my husband and I were previously feeling under the weather, we moved ours so we could binge-watch from bed. It’s now been there for an embarrassingly long time — so much so, that when I stumbled upon a DIY from interior designer Francesca Grace on how to hide this bedroom eyesore I had to bookmark it.

Grace and her boyfriend recently moved into an 1800s Victorian home, and in an Instagram video, she revealed a creative decorating solution. When her boyfriend said he didn’t want a TV on their bedroom wall (totally understandable), she concealed the TV inside a beautiful vintage wardrobe instead.

This idea is ingenious, especially because she repurposed an underutilized armoire (there’s nothing better than breathing new life into something old!), plus the TV’s still easily accessible. If your bedroom’s too small for such a large piece of furniture, though, you can recreate the setup in your living room instead — just make sure you have enough clearance to open the doors without hitting them on something.

Here’s how to get the look in your own home:

  1. Measure the length, height, and depth of your TV (most are thin enough to fit inside a cabinet these days, but note the dimensions just to be safe).
  2. Find a piece of furniture that can fit your TV. Grace used a vintage armoire with a mirrored front, which looks super luxurious and unique, but you can use something you already own or even try thrifting a budget-friendly option.
  3. Depending on the furniture piece, you might need to do some tweaking, like removing a shelf or drilling a hole in the back for TV wires. If you’re unsure about drilling, stop by your local hardware store or home center and ask for help.
  4. Lastly, make sure your TV has a stand so it can sit flat inside.

If you’re lucky enough to find or own a piece of furniture that could work for this DIY, you can quickly turn any eyesore into something clutter-free and high-end. I’m officially off the hook from buying a Samsung Frame TV, thanks to this project!
