A Fan Shared His Mariah Carey Christmas Ornament on Twitter—and She Had Thoughts
By now it’s canon that Mariah Carey is the undisputed queen of Christmas, because few people on this planet get into the holiday spirit quite like the pop diva does. But when one fan shared their Mariah Carey ornament with her on Twitter, she came through with the best drag of all time, and it’s unclear how this fan will ever be able to recover.
Kyle T. Blaine, an editor at CNN, shared a brand-new Mariah-inspired ornament dangling from their tree on Twitter, writing, “My husband and I exchange ornaments every year and this year he got me @MariahCarey which is very festive!” Although the ornament shows Carey decked out in her famous Santa dress from her iconic “Merry Christmas” album, perched atop some snow with “All I Want for Christmas Is You” written at the bottom, it seems even Carey herself was quick to pick up on the ornament’s rather precarious placement of her left eye and eyebrow—and she just wasn’t having it.
“This is… Not approved,” she wrote, adding, “(But it’s the thought that counts).” Fans immediately began dragging the ornament in equal measure, with some sharing that they, too, bought the $16 ornament despite receiving a truly questionable eyebrow situation that definitely doesn’t look lifelike in any way.
One fan was displeased with the initial ornament they were sent, but the second was even worse, with the fan joking that Carey 2.0 “has mumps.”
Another used some photo editing magic to insert the ornament onto Carey’s album cover, asking Carey if she approved of this version. (We’re gonna go ahead and guess that she doesn’t.) And yet another placed the ornament on the cover for Carey’s new AppleTV+ Christmas special, letting her share some space between Jennifer Hudson and Ariana Grande.
Naturally, Twitter users are having a field day with the unintentionally hilarious holiday decoration, sharing their thoughts about “Mariah Scary.”
It seems like Blaine is taking it all in stride, responding to Carey by tweeting, “Drag me queen.” As for all the newfound attention, Blaine wrote, “Lots of mixed emotions to get so many private messages congratulating me on getting completely and utterly wrecked by MC.”
As for the ornament itself, well, it promptly sold out online, so it seems like the San Antonio-based business is at least getting some support from those fans who simply can’t live without a little Mariah on their Christmas trees.
