Peek Inside Ty Pennington’s Beachy Home That Used to Be a Fishing Cabin

On Feb. 16, The Rachael Ray Show featured HGTV star Ty Pennington, who just launched a new home series “Ty Breaker.” He gave viewers a peek into his Florida home that he transformed from a 1940s fishing cabin into a much larger waterfront property.

During the tour, Pennington jokes that after building over 230 homes across the country for other people, his mom finally asked why they didn’t have one. So now he and his mother live in a beautiful, beachy property facing the Florida sunsets over a canal, and all of the decor and design decisions reflect that environment.

In the main room, Pennington shows how huge pieces of artwork deliver major impact, including a display of himself surfing that appears when the television is off. Floor-to-ceiling windows span much of the house, inspired by his desire to allow indoor and outdoor life to merge as much as possible, given Florida’s lush and warm environment. He designed accordion windows that basically serve to completely open two walls in one of his sitting rooms, letting the breeze blow through.

Wood lines the outside of his home, covers many of the ceilings, and also was constructed into a catwalk surrounding a courtyard with fruit trees in the middle. There, he jokes that he picked large enough hedges that he can come in from a surfing session and shower right outside in the courtyard, showing that he truly designed the house with his lifestyle in mind.

Let’s face it, this guy loves the South. He did deviate from his Florida dedication (obsession?!)  in one small detail —  viewers got to meet his dog named Georgia.
