This Underwater Hiking Trail Is Otherworldly

When it comes to the average hiking enthusiast, not even unfavorable weather conditions could keep the intentional wanderers from setting out on foot for a mind-clearing, calorie-burning jaunt. However, a park guide in Brazil recently captured footage of an underwater hiking trail that would stop even the most persistent walker in their tracks.

According to Buzzfeed, the hiking trail in Natural River Park in Jardim, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil became submerged when a river overflowed as a result of heavy rain in the area. Guide Waldemilson Vera ventured out on the trail and captured some surreal footage, which he later shared on YouTube.

Vera’s video shows the wooden walkway and the surrounding foliage underneath several feet of crystal clear water.

According to Laughing Squid, the video caption describes the rare circumstances that led to area being flooded with river water.

When it rains a lot, the river of the Rio de la Plata runs slower, causing its damming, thus increasing the water level of the river Olho D’Água. Despite the flood, on the day the video was recorded the waters of the river Olho D’Agua remained crystal clear due to their conserved ciliary forest and being inside a Private Reserve of Natural Heritage – RPPN, a type of Conservation Unit. This was a rare episode, and by the end of the day the river had returned to its normal level.

Amazing! The only thing missing from this incredible sight is a school of fish. Otherwise, the dazzling scenery looks like it could easily fit into an underwater theme park exhibit.

Heads up, hikers: If you plan to hit any hiking trails in Brazil, it might not be a bad idea to pack some swim gear just in case.
