If you’re itching to get outdoors more in 2023, you can’t go wrong with a trip to one of the United States’ 63 national parks. From the geysers and hot springs of Yellowstone National Park to the mountainscapes of Mount Rainier National Park, there’s bound to be something that appeals to you. 

While admission fees for national parks typically range from $5 per person to $35 per vehicle, cash-savvy travelers will be pleased to know that the U.S. National Park Service will offer several free admission days throughout 2023.

January 16

To mark Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, entry to all NPS sites is free of charge.

April 22

The NPS will celebrate the first day of 2023’s National Park Week by offering free access to all parks.

August 4

This early August date marks the third anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act, which allocates national funds for the protection and maintenance of national parks and Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) -funded schools.

September 23

First established in 1994, National Public Lands Day promotes volunteer conservation of public land. Whether you’d like to try your hand at national park volunteering or just check out the terrain, enjoy free admission to all NPS sites on this early fall date.

November 11

Veterans Day is your last opportunity to visit a national park free of charge in 2023.
