Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: My partner, Hayley, and I moved here from Chicago a few years ago. It’s the first time either of us have been able to rent an entire home and it’s been really fun having the opportunity to expand our style across more than just one room (we were sharing a studio before this!). We both spend a lot of time at home, so cultivating a comfortable, grounding space that we feel connected to is really important to us.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Thoughtfully thrifted.
Hunting for something, or nothing in particular, has always been a hobby of mine. It’s also something we enjoy doing together. There’s no better feeling than stumbling across a piece that really speaks to you amongst a sea of someone else’s pre-loved possessions.
What is your favorite room and why? Definitely the kitchen. Our last kitchen was basically the size of a closet, and very dark, which is such a departure from the natural light and space we’ve been given in this one.
If you could magically change something about your home, what would it be? The backyard! Our landlord did an incredible job renovating the house after their last tenant moved out, but unfortunately, the backyard was covered in a thick mess of brambles and after they cleaned it up they decided to put woodchips down instead of grass. It’s such a great space, but it’s mostly unusable. I’d love to be able to put some sort of wooden platform or deck out there someday!
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? Plants! There’s a great plant shop in town called babygreens that we can’t keep ourselves away from. We also scored a one-of-a-kind wall hanging at an estate sale recently that I’m totally in love with.
Any advice for creating a home you love? I’ve heard people say this time and time again, and that’s to stay true to you and your style! Fill your home with meaning and comfort and warmth and love.
