The only weekend rainy-day activity I love more than shopping for home decor at T.J Maxx and Marshalls just might be searching for vintage finds at indoor antique malls or secondhand shops. But these spots can be few and far between, and I’d be lying if I said they’re always able to update inventory as often as big-box stores can.

This is not to say that you shouldn’t add these kinds of places to your regular shopping rotation if you can. Another strategy, though, can be looking for vintage-inspired pieces at your favorite stores. Yes, they’re not as eco-minded, and sometimes they can be more expensive (although not always). If you’re after an aesthetic and are less about the hunt (or the backstory of an authentic old piece), though, then let me introduce you to the T.J. Maxx and Marshalls designs that are nailing vintage-inspired style right now.

T.J. Maxx and Marshalls Finds That Look Like Vintage

To find truly convincing vintage-look pieces, it’s best to stick to a few key categories at T.J. Maxx and Marshalls. Textiles, bedding, towels, and throws definitely all read as brand-new, so you’ll want to skip these items (and often, people aren’t really shopping for vintage linens beyond quilts anyway). Many of the rugs available, though, are total antique dupes. Keep an eye out for brands like Surya and Jaipur Living, which specialize in vintage-inspired designs.

The furniture section can also have some gems — particularly when it comes to the online offerings. Search for darker wood finishes, which were super-popular during the ’50s, ’70s, and even the ’90s. You can also find a lot of mid-century-inspired dining chairs.

Finally, the wall art and decorative accessory categories aren’t to be missed. These two stores regularly stock antique mirror dupes (you’ll see one below), and a lot of the artwork that’s being sourced lately has an old-world appeal to it. Don’t sleep on the glassware or planter offerings, either. I’ve been loving how storied the urns and candlesticks look in particular.

How to Get the Vintage Look at T.J. Maxx and Marshalls

I’m eyeing a few items for my own cart, and I’m sharing them with you here. These pieces either mimic a secondhand find I have — or are dupes of known iconic pieces (for far, far less in cost).

SAGEBROOK HOME 7in Glass Vintage Taper Candle Holder
$8

The slightly iridescent finish of this taper candleholder makes me think of vintage carnival glass. I’d buy a few to group together down a dining table.

$8 at TJ Maxx
Jamie Young Company 22x30 Scroll Shell Mantle Mirror
$100$75

I have a very similar antique version of this scroll-style mirror atop my mantel — and it was nowhere near $75. Mirrors are definitely a category where you can save by buying something vintage-look. Use a bit of Rub 'N Buff if you want to antique the frame a bit more.

$75 at Marshalls
JAIPUR 8x10 Keyara By Nikki Chu Area Rug
$160

Good luck trying to find an 8’ x 10’ authentic vintage carpet for less than $160. And if you do find one, tell me your ways! I could see this soothing gray area rug working really nicely in a bedroom.

$160 at TJ Maxx
Marmont Hill Inc 30x20 Set Of 2 Flower Wall Art Set
$100

The dark backgrounds of these chinoiserie prints screamed vintage to me. You could hang them together or try them in two separate rooms.

$100 at TJ Maxx
Spode Set Of 4 Rome Heritage Dinner Plates
$80

One of my best tips for finding vintage-inspired products at T.J.Maxx and Marshalls is simply to just type “vintage” into the search bar to see what pops up. You can also try “heritage,” which was the key term here. These patterned plates totally look like something you might stumble upon at an Italian flea market.

$80 at Marshalls
A&B HOME 18x22 Lucian Framed Antique Print Wall Art
$30

It’s the antique sculpture motif, tea-stained finish, and raw paper edge that combine here to make this framed print look ancient. It’d be a nice anchor piece in a gallery wall, but is large enough to hang on its own in an entry.

$30 at TJ Maxx
Three Hands Indoor Outdoor Pedestal Urn Planter
$50

If you’ve ever tried to buy an old garden urn secondhand, you know how expensive these pieces can get. Sure, this model isn’t cast iron or concrete, but the second you put it outside it’ll start to look even older — I promise!

$50 at TJ Maxx
Erin Gates 6x9 Indoor Outdoor Area Rug
$100$75

And for those searching for a vintage-look outdoor rug, give this carpet a try. There’s something so classic about a checkerboard motif, and I love that this one is laid on the diagonal for a little bit of extra flair.

$75 at Marshalls
KLAREL 20x31 Chandigarh European Beach Wood Dining Chair
$280

The name of this one says it all — it’s a dupe for an iconic 1950s chair. If you can’t afford the original, you can still get the look, thanks to TJX!

$280 at TJ Maxx
Jamie Young Garden Pedestal Bowl
$30

Again, T.J. Maxx and Marshalls are really on their vintage-look garden game. This pedestal bowl, though, could also be used inside for a very dramatic table centerpiece.
