Virginia’s Florida Home With a View
Name: Virginia
Location: Maitland, Florida
My husband, Garrett, and I live in an 816 sq ft condo that we rent in Maitland, Florida. What we loved most when Garrett first came to view the condo and continue to – is the incredible lake view we have from our living room window. We are on a gorgeous Central Florida lake and the sunrises can’t be beat. (Check out our #goodmorninglakemaitland !)
The condo complex was built in the 1950s but our unit has been updated. Over the course of the last 5+ years we’ve lived here, we have continued to make cosmetic updates – painting over the salmon colored walls in complimenting gray hues, swapping out the dining room light fixture, and adding storage with smart furniture solutions (thank you, Ikea!).
Decor-wise, the style is modern but eclectic. I’ve introduced some family heirlooms — an orange crate from my family’s past citrus business, a needlepoint from my Grandmother, framed photographs my Grandfather took in India while serving during WWII, a ceramic elephant plant stand, and more. We’ve infused personality through artwork. Some of this artwork includes small paintings of mine and much of Garrett’s photography. We also have a handful of San Francisco themed pieces, a nod to Garrett’s hometown!
Despite our place being small, we love having friends over. We love grilling lakeside at the complex’s pool and then ending the night in our unit. We’ve squeezed as many as 15 friends in, piled on our sectional sofa and gathering around our small dining room table. Having a space where others feel comfortable is important to us and something we are proud to have achieved.
Thanks, Virginia! You can see more of Virginia’s home on her blog Relative South
