Hearth Mural by Very Gay Paint

I’m calling it — this is the year of embracing all the colors, bold patterns, and bright designs that you previously thought were too much. Maybe they were “too much” for a rental or “too much” because you’re concerned your tastes might change next year. Whatever the reason, you just couldn’t get behind committing to the wallpaper install or trying to convince your landlord (or your wallet) that a kitchen floor reno was in the cards.

The good news? Two beloved designers are launching a collaboration with WallPops, and it’s a must-see for anyone who loves DIY, vibrant design, or fun, quirky patterns. Nicholas Scheppard and Jenson Titus, the duo behind Very Gay Paint, are taking their artistic skills from the paint brush to the peel-and-stick world

You may already know and love them for their bold, retro murals, but now you don’t need to live in Los Angeles — or have a custom mural budget — to bring their signature style into your home. Their new line features peel-and-stick wallpaper and peel-and-stick floor tiles that are every bit as vibrant, bright, and dynamic as you’d expect from such a colorful duo.

The wallpaper line has three bold designs. “Beverly” boasts cheerful squiggles in three colorways — blue, pink, and tan — and is reminiscent of a design you’d see in a ’70s throwback TV show. “Boxanne” comes in blue, orange, and tan colorways, and it’s a modernist dream, with squares and circles coming together in Tetris-like perfection. Lastly, “Sir Culls” is an in-your-face retro circle repeat in black, orange, and pink colorways.

We’re already envisioning all three of these giving a pop of color to an entryway, adding an unexpected surprise to a kitchen wall, or creating the ultimate creative home office (forget the accent wall — this is the time to go all-in).

Very Gay Paint and WallPop’s floor tiles collab also comes in three different designs, and one of them may remind you of an iconic dining room. The “Gia Metric” black and white tile is a nod to the beautifully chaotic striped dining room that the artists did at RuPaul’s famous abode.

The other two floor tiles are “Beth Friend,” a quirky pattern with squiggles and shapes that seems to fall into a Matisse-meets-Keith Haring mash-up, and “Brenda Daworld,” which is giving us computer hardware board vibes. All three are bold, busy choices — in the best way — and they’ll be right at home whether you decide to put them in a kitchen or keep them a bit more restrained in a powder room.

Regardless of the direction you decide to go with your Very Gay Paint and WallPops collab pick, this probably won’t be the last time this year that we see a big design name dip their toe into the peel-and-stick world. Chris Loves Julia also has a line with WallPops, and I’m eagerly waiting to see who’s next.
