The best thing about warmer weather is the opportunity to greatly expand your living space. Instead of huddling inside like you did this winter, emerge from your four walls and head outside. Think patios, front stoop, porches, decks or backyards. Now’s a great time to make them feel fresh and new again, primed for maximum enjoyment all summer long.

This Weekend’s Assignment: Get your outdoor space in shape for summer.

Do a Clean Sweep: Once the snow is gone, sweep your outdoor space, clear out any dead branches and leaves from the deck, and get rid of broken flower pots or any other detritus left over from last year.

Ready Furniture & Equipment: Clean all your outdoor seating and tables. Tune up your lawn mower and prime your grill (or get the blades sharpened on your push mower). Check to see if your garden hose leaks, and fix or replace it. Whatever you use, make sure it’s all in working order and fuel is stocked for summer.

Perk Up Your Patio: The outdoors is already nice as it is, so it’s pretty easy to give a style boost to your space. Plant something green, paint a piece of furniture, and light it up so you can use the area all night long.
