Why You Should Avoid White Bathrooms, According to One Designer
From hotel suites to masters, white is easily the most dominant bathroom color. The shade evokes cleanliness and natural light, so it’s definitely the best fit for your bathrooms, right? Wrong. According to designer Phoenix Grey, it’s actually one of the worst colors to paint it.
In a recent TikTok, Grey (@mrphoenixgrey) went through a list of the worst colors to use in bathrooms. Surprisingly, bright white was at the top of the list.
“A cool tone can make your space feel very blue and cold, and reflect negatively, especially in an intimate space,” he explained. “Your face is not going to look its natural skin tone.”
Other colors on Grey’s list included peach, black, and green.
Although he acknowledged that peach is a beautiful shade on its own, Grey argued that peach “looks extremely uninviting and decreases your overall energy in the space.” Meanwhile, although black bathrooms are great for hiding hair and other messes, Grey noted that the hue will absorb light and make it more difficult to accurately apply makeup. Finally, although green is a trendy color, the designer claims it’s the worst color to use in your bathroom, full-stop. Why? It completely changes your skin tone, counteracting red on the color spectrum.
Plenty of homeowners were clearly eager to avoid bathroom color mishaps. Grey’s video has racked up over 761,100 likes in three days.
As one viewer put it: “Good thing I don’t do my makeup in my bathroom.”
Another TikToker suggested a solution for black bathrooms: Use a ring light to off-set any changes in lighting.
Of course, everyone is different, and what works for some homeowners is a no-go for others. So go forth and paint your bathroom whatever shade feels right to you — but maybe do your makeup somewhere else in the meantime!
