Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: My home is a large, open, brightly lit space located on a quiet block. I specifically chose this space because of its large size and huge windows. As a full-time writer, I work from home and found it most important to have multiple areas to write from in my home.
After scoring a book deal while renting a tiny studio during the middle of the pandemic, I knew my next place would need to large enough for me to not feel completely enclosed and to remain inspired.
I am a creative, film-obsessed, unapologetically Black woman. There are hints of my personality throughout my entire space. I’m a huge lover of French films and Paris, and it shows in my modern Parisian/French provincial bedroom and dining pieces and bathroom fixtures. My living room and foyer area feature mid-century modern vintage furniture and French accent pieces influenced by my love for film and the creative spaces of the artists I admire. As a writer, I’m also an avid reader, and have a plethora of books in every corner of my home.
What is your favorite room and why? My favorite room is my bedroom because it’s where I spend most of my time and the room I put the most effort into. I added a French mantelpiece to create a faux fireplace, and it’s filled with some of my favorite books. Both of my dressers are vintage, French provincial customized pieces from my favorite Etsy shop. My velvet chair, bedding, stool, and curtains add an extra Parisian touch to the space. And my warm area rug ties all the pieces together.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? This beautiful, black marble tablethat I use as nightstand.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Modern and minimalist
Any advice for creating a home you love? Get inspired by the homes of the people whose work you admire or the cities you like to visit. France is my most-traveled-to country, so it comes as no surprise that my home’s interior reflects Parisian style. Also, take your time. Shopping for your home should be a marathon, not a sprint.
