Why we have a crush on this property

As a real estate editor, the topic of curb appeal comes up a lot. <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="Stories%20about%20buying%20and%20selling%20homes%20emphasize%20the%20importance%20of%20a%20property%E2%80%99s%20first%20impression%20%E2%80%94%20that%20initial%20look%20at%20a%20place%20you%20get%20from%20the%20street.%C2%A0
%0A%0A%0A%0A
This%20four-bedroom%20<a%20href=" https: target="_blank">shotgun house for sale in New Orleans, though, takes curb appeal and kicks it up one very colorful notch.

As you can quite clearly see, the hot pink home on Music Street flaunts bright-yellow trim and turquoise highlights. And it’s not just vibrant on the outside, either; the interior is like a kaleidoscope of color with aqua hallways, an eggplant bedroom, blue ceilings, and a sea foam green kitchen.

There are hardwood floors throughout the house, not to mention 12-foot ceilings, ornamental fireplaces, and original pocket doors. Those aqua halls offer built-in shelves for displaying art, while one bathroom features a stained glass window and a clawfoot soaking tub. The kitchen comes with a large farmhouse sink and leads to the rear deck.

The vivid palette continues out to the backyard, where the spacious covered deck, a brick patio, and plenty of room for plants makes for a lush little hangout.

And for those who’ve never heard of a shotgun house, here’s a quick history lesson: It’s an architectural style that’s thought to have originated in New Orleans. These are narrow, one-story homes built on a series of brick piers. The rectangular abodes measure up to 12 feet wide, are about three to six rooms deep, and typically have front-gabled roofs. The name “shotgun house” is said to come from the idea that a bullet shot through the front door could fly clean through the house and out the open back door. Another theory says the name comes from the African word togun, a Yoruba term that means “gathering place.”
