Why we have a crush on this property

I’ll be the first to admit that I call homes “one of a kind” a little too often. Can every eye-catching Property Crush I feature actually be one of a kind? The jury’s out.

But when it comes to this stunning Art Deco creation for sale in Baltimore, I mean it — the two-bedroom jewel is truly one of a kind. How can I be so sure? The granddaughter of the man who designed the home, Benjamin Eisenberg, confirms it’s the only house of its kind in Baltimore.

Built in 1947 for Eisenberg’s second wife, Eunice, the home explodes with retro charm. Eisenberg’s granddaughter Beverly explains that the couple often took trips down to Miami Beach in his convertible, which is probably where he gleaned inspiration for his pastel-colored creation. He designed the house to maximize the views of nearby Lake Montebello, with windows, curving walls, and glass blocks.

Inside, the home is filled with custom built-ins, like the rows of cubbies in the dining room, which Beverly explains was meant for displaying the family’s many midcentury tchotchkes. It’s clear the current owner also shares a love of midcentury design. The home’s next owner should admire it, too, as some midcentury furniture will be included in the sale.

Furniture aside, it’s the ‘50s kitchen and bathroom that do it for me. The blue tiles and fish wallpaper in the bathroom! The powder pink and yellow cabinets in the kitchen! They certainly do not make ‘em like that anymore.
