A 55-Square-Feet Converted Van Is So Gorgeous, It’s Like a Minimal, Modern, Woodsy Cabin on Wheels
Name: Kayleigh Ann Archbold and my husband, Jason
Location: Traveling throughout North America but originally from New Jersey
Type of home: Van
Size: 55 square feet
Years lived in: 2.5 months, owned
Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: My husband Jason and I purchased our 2019 Ford Transit in January of 2020. We moved out of our New Jersey apartment in March and moved to upstate New York into my in-laws’ home. We then spent three months building the van out. We left June 1 and have been on the road ever since, searching for a new place to call home. [Apartment Therapy toured their former apartment!]
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Earthy, boho, cozy, and minimal.
What is your favorite room and why? My favorite part is most definitely our kitchen. I love the contrast between the copper faucet and black sink and how they look against the oak countertop.
I also love the beauty of the ash cabinets and subway tile, plus the fact all the wood is from my in-laws’ property.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? The last thing I bought for our home was a wool pillow that was hand woven in Teotitlan, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Any advice for creating a home you love? You do not need a large space to create a beautiful home. Invest in some handmade, unique pieces that you love and have some inexpensive items (pillows, blankets) you can switch out to change things up!
