Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: This is my first apartment by myself. The first place that I had complete autonomy to do whatever I wanted creativity wise and to truly create an oasis of peace and comfort. I let my plants be my pop of color and purposely picked plants that add a tropical element to this northeastern space.

I identify as a Black woman. My identity is throughout this entire space, mainly getting all of my inspiration through some of the most influential Black women in my life. Growing up, I always felt I had to choose between identities and never feeling like I had a label. This space allows me to be every bit of boujie, Afrocentric, bohemian, naturalista, and whatever else I’m feeling that day. My decor was inspired by my grandmother’s love for the 70s. I literally was inspired by her furniture from when she lived in Brooklyn during the 1970s. When I thought of my color palette, I wanted to make sure that I appreciated the natural tones of the world by having lots of woods and rattan to offset the white and black.

Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Bohemian with a modern twist

What is your favorite room and why? My favorite room is absolutely my living room. I spend 90 percent of my time in here and only go in my bedroom to sleep. It gets great lighting, and it is also where I can sit and see my vision in real time. I’m so aware of the lighting from the sun that I guess what time of day it is based on where the light sits in my space.

What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? The last thing I bought for my home was a Monstera Deliciosa plant! Her name is Amora and she is absolutely beautiful.

Any advice for creating a home you love? My advice is to think about what a space looks like when you feel your absolute best. Is it dark? Light? What colors make you happy? When I chose my apartment, I immediately started to look for pieces that can turn this space into a complete airy oasis. I thought of being in Tulum, Jamaica, and the Almafi Coast. And how all those places places made me feel. I brought a little from each place into my decor!
